We are proud to be in-network with many healthcare plans (including Kaiser, Blue Shield, Blue Cross and HealthNet plans) through ASH (American Specialty Health). Here’s what you should know:
1. Referral Is Required (Kaiser or HMO members)
HMO plans require an active referral from your primary care physician (PCP) for acupuncture services. Without a referral, insurance will not cover the visit.
If you don’t have a referral yet, you are welcome to start as a self-pay patient. Or please contact your primary care to get a referral before booking with us.
2. What Your Plan Covers
Kaiser only covers 15 minutes of acupuncture per visit. Other plans under ASH covers 30 minutes. Additional time or services are not included in your insurance coverage.
Insurance typically approves acupuncture for the following conditions: Musculoskeletal pain (neck, back, shoulder, knee, etc.), headaches and migraines, nausea (e.g., from chemotherapy or post-surgery), osteoarthritis-related pain, etc.
Your copay varies by plan (typically $10–$60 per visit).
3. What Are NOT Covered
*Fertility, hormonal imbalance, weight loss, mental health and stress-related diagnosis for acupuncture treatments are NOT covered by insurance.
4. Why Most Patients Upgrade
The insurance covered acupuncture sessions are very limited and may require multiple visits per week for noticeable results. That’s why most patients choose to upgrade to a full 60-minute session for comprehensive care, including: extended acupuncture time, and additional techniques (cupping, gua sha, tuina, etc.). This allows us to provide quality treatments for optimal results. Insurance helps cover part of your care. We help make it complete
